![]() ![]() It can be difficult for young writers to find a way to show the passage of time. It’s a book which can be enjoyed just as a fun read, but it can be used for teaching writing and research, too. This story is told in the 2016 Caldecott Winner Finding Winnie: The True Story of the World’s Most Famous Bear written by Colebourn’s great-granddaughter Lindsay Mattick and illustrated by Sophie Blackall. Milne, was captivated by this gentle bear, too and began telling and writing Winnie the Pooh stories. He and the other children were allowed to go into her cage and pet and feed her. A young boy, Christopher Robin, met Winnie there. In the end he safely left her at the London Zoo. Winnie thrived there, but when Harry and his comrades were shipped to France, Harry realized she could not live so close to battle. Winnie became the official mascot of Harry’s regiment and made the trip with him to England to continue his training. He bought the cub and named her Winnie after his hometown of Winnipeg. ![]() Harry Colebourn, a veterinarian and soldier in training, sees a young bear cub with a trapper at a train station. This story really begins back during World War I. ![]() However, the story of Pooh doesn’t begin with the A. ![]() Who doesn’t love Winnie the Pooh? This title seemed vaguely familiar to me (I’m sure I heard about it somewhere seeing as it was a best seller), and when I came across a reference to it on All and Sundry as she tried to find a housekeeping service, I read a few reviews of it on Amazon and promptly put in a request for it at the library (have I mention how much I love and adore our library?). I like knowing all about big industries in our country and how they function. I read Fast Food Nation the summer after my freshman year in college and loved it. I like reading about the “behind the scenes” in American life. ![]() I love books like Nickel and Dimed: On (Not) Getting By in America for some reason. ![]() ![]() Vivian looks back on her past with amusement and compassion as she tries to explain to Angela the complicated relationship that she shared with Angela’s father, Frank. A wryly funny historical fiction novel that shifts from broad comedy to poignant tragedy, the book portrays an eccentric cast of characters from Vivian’s years working in the theater. The setting consists of only two locations: the small town of Clinton in upstate New York and New York City itself. The novel is told in first-person narration from Vivian’s viewpoint as an eighty-nine-year-old looking back on her exploits from decades earlier. ![]() ![]() City of Girls tells the story of Vivian Morris from the time she was booted out of Vassar College in 1940 until 2010 when she tells her life story to a young woman named Angela Grecco. ![]() ![]() ![]() I would also say that this book was also a suspense because of all the crazy things that were happening to Raine. I love when authors make the females strong and not weak. The main girl character, Raine is strong and can handle herself. ![]() So if you hate bullying I would not recommend you read this. This story is a bully romance but the bullying isn’t too bad to where it makes you sick. ![]() I liked the riddles and I think she could have made the story more interesting, like I think the author should have made her pop up more in random places. The only character I think should have been more in the story was aunt marie. I also like how I did not have to guess how any of the characters looked, Becca, the author gives a good description on every character, which you guys know I love when authors do that. I honestly felt like I was actually in the story and I like when authors do that because who doesn’t want to experience the story as you’re reading it. From the very beginning you get pulled in. I should start by saying that I love the way this author writes. To me, this story reminds me of cinderella but with a twist and a bit of fifty shades of grey minus the red room. It feels so good to be reading again and let me tell you this book did not disappoint. ![]() ![]() ![]() Your doctor will perform follow-up tests to confirm a diagnosis.
